About Our Pastor

Peace be with you!

Welcome to Advent!  I am Pastor Elaine and I have been serving here since December 2017.  I have described my path to ordained ministry as a long and winding road.  I felt called to this work from a very early age.  However, I fought the call for many many years.  I had things I wanted to do.  So I got my B.A, my M.A & a Phd!  But one day when I was working on my thesis I realized I could not fight this any longer. God has a way of bringing you around!  I completed my PhD and headed to Divinity school.  I was a candidate for ordination in the Anglican Church.  Along the way I had 2 daughters and became a full time mom.  I also realized that I was much more at home in the Lutheran Church.

It took me quite awhile to realize that I would not lose myself in responding to God’s call (my big fear).  I discovered that in saying YES to God I am fully myself.  I find great joy in the work that I do.

I pray that you will find what you are seeking.  I pray that you will say YES to God. There is tremendous freedom in saying Yes. We are all called to very different things and paths.  But maybe you will find a place here that feels comfortable and fits.

  Search me out, O God, And know my heart;

Try me And know my restless thoughts.  (Psalm 139 v23)

I believe that we are all children of God.  That we are all beloved and are perfectly made.  I believe in the great commandment - to love God with all your heart and soul and mind and strength and to love your neighbour as yourself.  I believe that we do not have to do anything to “win” God’s love.  We already have it.  God’s grace is a gift freely given.  We just have to say yes and accept the gift.

Peace

Pastor Elaine
